You might have noticed that trends from the ’90s and early ’00s have been making a dramatic comeback this year, with much of today’s fashion and music heavily influenced by this iconic era. As aresult, a lot of the events Hog Roast Humberston has catered for recently here in Lincolnshire have drawn inspiration from this timeframe too!
Just last weekend, we headed off to a nearby venue, which is commonly used for events and celebrations, where we prepared one of our show-stopping menus for Carla’s 18th birthday party!
Obsessed with all things ’90s, the birthday girl had decorated the space with pink and baby blue foil tinsel, inflatable seating areas and lots of props, which paid homage to the time – think Troll doll heads and Furbie pictures. With the help of Mum and Dad, she also hired a DJ to play classic tunes from the era, which included smash hits from Nirvana, Blink-182, Sum 41 and beyond.
Leaning into the theme, the guests, of which there were 150, all came dressed in traditional ’90s and noughties attire – block prints, velour, and halter necks were everywhere.
Taking care of the food from the corner of the room, so as not to disturb the dancing guests or detract from the client’s carefully cultivated vibe, Hog Roast Humberston rustled up a wholesome and delicious feast, which included Cajun-spiced whole roast chickens, fall-off the bone Louisiana sticky pork ribs, Texan 24-hour beef brisket and BBQ-pulled jackfruit rolls with coleslaw.
Adding depth and extra flavour to this popular feast, we served mixed sweet potato and regular fries, mac and cheese, buttery corn cobbettes and antipasti platters, which were dotted around the venue. We also set up a grazing table of savoury treats, including crisps, crackers, mini quiche, mini pizzas and a selection of bitesize Indian delights.
With so much variety on offer, the food was an instant hit among the guests. And, for Hog Roast Humberston, the party was a lot of fun to cater at – it felt like taking a step back in time! We thoroughly enjoyed working with Carla and helping her turn her ideas into reality, and we’re so pleased she had an amazing day.
