We recently catered an event at a local sports club, where the secretary had asked us to cook our famous pigs in buns for around a hundred people and to also provide a vegetarian option and some side dishes. We can cater all kinds of dietary needs and when it comes to vegetarians, we have some excellent choices but one that’s always a hit is our grilled veggie kebabs – we add chunks of halloumi cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, red onion, courgette and mixed peppers to skewers, grill to perfection and then serve in pitta bread alongside our yummy Tzatziki dip. With regards our customers, these skewers are winners as much as our pigs in buns are!
On the day of the event, our Hog Roast Caistor chef and assistants made their way to the sports club in the morning, to set up our equipment and start preparing the meat. We were booked in to serve from lunchtime, but it takes a good few hours to cook a hog, so before anything else, we had to prep the meat and get it cooking. We do this by scoring the meat all over, covering it with plenty of water and then massaging in lots of salt, and the latter part is how we get that amazing crackling that everyone loves. Once done, we set the hog roasting machine to a low temperature and then watch over the hog as it roasts.
By 12pm, the guests started to arrive in droves and our Hog Roast Caistor team members got ready to serve some lovely, hot food and some fresh salads too.
